A Healthy Glow Thanks to LED

There are tons of different creams, ointments, and medications you can take to care for your skin. If skin care is something that interests you, you know all about them. But did you know beautiful skin can be as simple as sitting under the correct light to get that “healthy glow” you’ve been looking for?

LED light therapy is becoming “all the rage” as a new way to keep your skin looking young and healthy. And believe it or not, it actually works!

Not only do LED lights save your household money and energy, but the different wavelengths (or colors) of light energy the diodes emit happen to have a positive effect on your health. LED light therapy was originally developed by doctors to help speed the healing of wounds and post-surgical scars. Eventually, people began using the therapy to not just heal their skin, but to keep it healthy.

How Does It Work?

According to Steven Marchese, product developer for LightStim: a home-use LED light therapy tool, “If the therapeutic light energy is the correct wavelength, cells in the dermis layer of skin will convert that light energy into ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the fuel that the cell uses to do its job. The fibroblast cells in the dermis layer have the job of producing collagen (which gives the skin fullness or the plumped look) and elastin (which gives the skin the ability to bounce back). Thus, LED gives the cells a ‘full tank of fuel’ and these fibroblast cells start producing collagen and elastin like when one was 20-25 years old.”

In other words, LED light has the ability to recharge the cells in your skin so they work much like when you were younger, repairing themselves and improving your overall skin health and beauty.

Depending on the color of the LED lights you use (red or blue), they effectively treat things like:

  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Psoriasis
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Depression and other mental health issues
  • Muscle and joint pain and stiffness associated with arthritis
  • Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders
  • Fibromyalgia
  • And more

Is It Safe?

And if you still question whether LED lights can actually improve your health and skin, conclusive studies have been done to confirm the effects of LED therapy, and it’s FDA approved.

There are different methods of LED light therapy that are accessible to all ranges of people. Local salons are beginning to use the technology, often as a step in professional facials, after exfoliation and before hydration. It’s recommended to come in for treatments two to three times a week over the course of four to six weeks.

Of course, multiple treatments can sometimes get expensive. As an alternate solution, there are home-products for LED light therapy, like the previously mentioned LightStim, that you only have to pay for once and can use at your own leisure.

Before today, you may have been content just knowing about the energy and money-saving benefits of LED lighting in your home or office. It’s incredible to find out how truly innovative LED technology is, and how even your health can benefit with a little more LED in your life. Give LED light therapy a shot, and you might just get that “healthy glow” you’ve always been looking for!
